The cap is made of (hard) rubber, ensuring a perfect seal between your mount and connector. It features a clip so it can be attached to the cable when your Zumo is mounted. This works just like the original cap stays in place. The advantage is that the cap is harder to lose. If you don't want that, simply cut it off.
